Our Snapshot view of attitudes to Green IT

We have now blogged about our surprisingly honest Green IT poll results. Although we recognise that our survey sample is not vast, it is still notable that despite the volume of air time given to the subject there it is still a priority list for strategic decision making around IT, and Green is yet to climb to the top. We note Chris Gabriel's observations that he has not seen a Green IT project that has not positively impacted a company's P/L. Let's hope that sooner rather than later the economic arguement drives the Green message home.
Green "IT" is Good

Following on from our previous blog, IT Sanctuary members have confirmed that green issues DO have a place on the corporate agenda at their organisations. In a poll on this site, almost one-fifth (19 per cent) of you told us that environmental considerations were ‘very important' in planning your IT operations, with a further 19 per cent saying that they were ‘somewhat important'.However, the vast majority (62 per cent) still say these issues are ‘not important', which surprised us.Perhaps this argument from Chris Gabriel, head of solutions at Logicalis might help in the debate: "The principal benefit [of green IT]...
We did not expect that from our latest survey!

Well this was a surprise to us. We have taken down our third survey, which many of you will remember was related Green IT and its current impact on IT strategy planning. As always, when we have processed our findings and gathered our views, we will blog about it, but suffice to say it was not what we were expecting... and that is certainly one thing we had hoped from the IT sanctuary.
