Despite the effects of worldwide economic turbulence, demand for IT products and services continues to demonstrate strong growth, according to data recently released from market research organisation, the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO).

EITO researchers forecast growth in the global IT market of 5.2% during 2008, to reach €963.5 billion (£777 billion).

In fact, according to EITO chairman Bruno Lamborghini, overall weakening in the global economy has "hardly affected" high-tech sector turnover to date.

For 2009, EITO's researchers expect slightly higher growth in the global IT market of 5.6%. Worldwide turnover in computers, software and IT services could for the first time reach more than one trillion euros, they say.
